The Brooch, one of Eltram's Follies

As I fared from Oren town

I met a man as rain came down.

I feared a chill and time a’ bed

But nought a drop fell on his head.

A History of the Term Panid

When the first people left Nebessa and set foot on the continent of Koa, the ‘talented’ who in time were raised amongst them were known as The Cunning Ones. Shack Quill Tree, Kallian Spice Wood, Abrais Green Comb, Nemalt Stilt Tree, Halda Gnarlwood and Morrin Copper Beam. Six individuals born of each of the six tribes that left Nebessa and skilled in ways no mortal could fathom. Ways they later wrote down in the ten books.

Aeons later, when all of Koa was colonised and The Cunning Ones were thought dead, the continent's ‘talented’ were known by a range of names Elementalist, Calismet, Field Master, Clever Hand, Metagist and Dry One. Each different but all skilled in field use. The ambient energy of Koa.

In time, these names faded as the numbers and skills of the 'talented' dwindled and were forgotten. Only when Mennem returned to Hallorn and began looking for the ten books, written by The Cunning Ones aeons earlier, was the ancient Hallorn name Panid first used.

Pan, meaning all and idd, at times, meaning skilled person or skilled. Pan-idd, latterly Panid, a person of innumerable skills.

After the Great War, the name Panid was disgraced and fell from use. The 'talented' were simply known as Talents in the countries that formed the south of Koa. In the isolated northern countries, where Talents were reviled, their names included Sorcerer, Witch and Necromancer.

Only now has the name Panid been reborn in the guise of Aran of Rel. An unwanted accolade, weighed down by history and its habit of repetition.
